(AP) ST. LOUIS - David Freese gave credit to Albert Pujols for setting him on the right track. He praised the manager Tony La Russa to believe in it. He thanked Mark McGwire swing tips of dividends paid, few could have imagined.

Just maybe, Freese should give some credit to himself.

The kid who once quit the hometown of baseball ended October 1 to remember the MVP of the World Series on Friday night. The Cardinals ended their 11 championship in dramatic fashion, a victory of 6-2 over the Texas Rangers in Game 7 since 2002.

Freese hit .348 in the series, with seven RBIs, three doubles and a homer large. It is the fourth Cardinals player to win the MVP award, joining Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Gibson in 1964 and '67, the receiver Darrell Porter in 1982 and David Eckstein in his 2006 victory in Detroit.

Freese drove in 21 runs in the postseason, breaking the previous record.

"I had a whole day of my life when I thought I would not even close to being a major player," said Freese. "I'm here because of all the world around me have as much confidence in me to carry out not only baseball, but only things of life, and to do this -. I am full of joy, at last."
