Ethan Zohn , who won "Survivor: Africa", told People that she had been in remission from cancer for almost two years until September, when he learned that his cancer had returned. Hodgkin lymphoma is a treatable cancer that attacks the immune system.
Studies indicate that 10 to 15 percent of people with early stage Hodgkin lymphoma and 30 to 40 percent of those treated for the later stages of disease recurrence of the experience.
"It's my area located in the lungs," said Zohn, 37. "But it is not good for my body."
Hodgkin lymphoma is more common in people 15 to 35 and people over 55 years. It is also more common in people with a family history of disease, as well as men, according to the National Cancer Institute.
About 9,000 people will be diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in the U.S. in 2011, estimated that 1,300 will die from the disease. Symptoms of cancer include an enlarged spleen, lymph nodes, and sweats weight loss, fever, fatigue and night, according to the National Cancer Institute.
In October, Zohn began a new form of chemotherapy called SGN-35. This type of therapy targets only cancer cells, leaving most healthy cells intact. People reported that after 12 weeks of treatment, Zohn will undergo another stem cell transplant from one of his two brothers.
"But the doctors will tell me which one. You do not want to start treatment in a different way to others," said Zohn people. "Of course my whole family is taking bets on who it is."
